ABOUT THE L. W. M. L. OF ST. PAUL, AUSTIN
History
The Ladies Aid of St. Paul Lutheran Church was organized in 1897. In 1934, the group divided. The Ladies Aid continued to meet in the afternoons and the Dorcas group met in the evening.
In the mid-1940’s, both groups joined the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, a national organization of women of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. At that time, the afternoon group became the St. Paul Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. The night group became a charter member on June 7, 1947 and retained the name Dorcas.
Objectives
The purpose of Dorcas is to develop and maintain a greater mission consciousness among the Lutheran women of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church at large through missionary education, missionary service and missionary inspiration. As a member society, Dorcas also helps to carry out the objects of the Texas District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the International Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

L. W. M. L. Hymn
Serve the Lord with gladness! Is there greater joy?
Than to serve the Master, Deigning to employ
Than to serve the Master, Deigning to employ
Us to build His Kingdom? Angels, too, rejoice
Over every sinner brought to heed his voice.
Onward, then, for Jesus! Let this be our aim:
Serve the Lord with gladness! Glorify His Name!
L. W. M. L. Motto
Serve the Lord with Gladness………………..Psalm 100:2
L. W. M. L. Prayer
As we gather together each month, keep us mindful of our real purpose here on earth, to spread the Gospel and to serve Thee to the best of our abilities. May we in all things be like faithful Dorcas, charitable and full of good works. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
L. W. M. L. Pledge
(Written by Rev. Harry Fricke)
In fervent gratitude for the Savior’s dying love and blood-bought gift of redemption, we dedicate ourselves to Him with all that we are and have; and in obedience to His call for workers in the harvest fields, we pledge Him our willing service, wherever and whenever He hath need of us. We consecrate to our Savior our hands to work for Him, our feet to go on His errands, our voices to sing His praises, our lips to proclaim His redeeming love, our silver and our gold to extend His kingdom, our will to do His will and every power of our life to the great task of bringing the lost and the erring into eternal fellowship with Him.
Amen.
Texas District LWML Purpose Statement

L. W. M. L. Song
(Tune: The Lutheran Hymnal #134)
Lutheran Women, one and all,
We have heard the Gospel call,
We by faith have seen our Lord
Crucified and then restored.
We have seen Him pay the price,
For our sins a sacrifice.
Him, we Lord and Christ acclaim,
And unite to praise His name.
Lutheran Women, young and old,
Well we know His challenge bold,
Held to take the Gospel light
To a world in darkest night,
By example in the home,
By inviting those who roam,
By your prayers for sinners lost,
By your gifts for missions’ cost.
Lutheran Women, coast to coast,
In the Lord a mighty host,
Let us all united be
In the Holy Trinity
One in faith, in hope and love,
Working for the Lord above,
Till, our earthly labors done,
We in Heaven shall all be one.
Amen.
