University-Age Bible Class
St. Paul Lutheran Church has always had a heart for Christian education, and the congregation has always had a close connection with university students in the Austin area. The congregation was instrumental in founding what is now Concordia University Texas, as well as University Lutheran Church that primarily serves students of the University of Texas at Austin. Students from those and other campuses in the Austin area have made St. Paul their church home while in Austin.
During the fall and spring semesters, St. Paul offers a special Bible class for students of the local universities and all those of university age. The University-age Bible Class meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in the 8th-grade classroom upstairs in the main wing of the school. Grab a cup of coffee and a snack from the Fellowship Hall, and join us between the Divine Services. Newcomers are always welcome!

During the 2009-2010 academic year, the class studied the Augsburg Confession and the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, two documents contained in The Book of Concord that is part of the Biblical and Confessional standard of the Lutheran Church. The topic was very appropriate for our times. Research by the Barna Group
and others has shown that many teens and young adults are accustomed to radical individualism and approach religion the same way. These people may use the label "Christian", but they design their own faith. And, the Barna Group suggests, the values they embrace are without biblical foundations, since they are skeptical of traditional religiosity. The class topic is an antidote to these trends Barna calls "designer faith" and "rootless values".
The material used in the class was published by Concordia Publishing House and is linked as a PDF here.
The schedule and initial topic for the 2010-2011 academic year will be developed and published over the summer. If you have any questions, please contact the Church Office at (512)472-8301 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
