Officer Duties SCHOOL BOARD The mission of St. Paul Lutheran Church is to spread and model the good news of Jesus Christ with our members, the community and the world.
The mission of St. Paul Lutheran School is to nurture the growth of its students as Christian people, fully integrated in spirit, character, mind, and body, in service to each other, the church, and the community.
The School Board shall be composed of seven members, each elected by the voting membership of the congregation for a three-year term. Two of the members shall be elected the first year, two members the second year and three members the third, each for three year terms. This board shall elect a chairman, a vice-chairman, and a secretary from its membership. Prior to each meeting of the Board, the Chairman will gather items for a printed agenda and provide a copy of the agenda to each Board member, Congregation Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Senior Pastor.
The Chairman of this Board shall represent the Board at meetings of the Church Council. A written report of actions approved at the Board meeting shall be distributed at each Council meeting. This Board shall be responsible for determining policies that direct the planning and administration of the school business, the planning and administration of the education program of the school and child care center, and that support the mission of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School.
In order to meet these basic objectives, the Board, either corporately or through specifically designated individuals, shall be responsible for:
PERSONNEL:
1. Selection and recommendation of called personnel and the selection and contracting of lay personnel
2. Aiding the administration in supervising the conduct of professional teachers on the school faculty.
3. Providing for the professional growth of the school faculty and staff through conferences, conventions, continuing education and the like, and requesting the necessary funds for the same in the budget process.
4. Enlisting, contracting, training and supervising members of the school cafeteria staff.
5. Being concerned about and praying for the spiritual, emotional, and physical health and welfare of the members of the school faculty and staff.
6. Development and implementation of annual faculty and staff interviews/reviews.
7. Be involved with performance reviews, appraisal evaluations, documentation and intervention as necessary.
CURRICULUM / PROGRAMS: 1. The Christian nurture of all children in the school.
2. Establishment of objectives, setting policies for, and supervising the education program of the school.
3. Approving curriculum, analyzing performance of, and seeking constant improvement of the school.
4. Continually reviewing the school program to determine whether appropriate age groups are being served and make revisions and additions deemed advisable.
5. Providing for summer child care, its curriculum, and its staff.
6. Annual review of achievement test scores.
FACILITIES : 1. Working closely with the Board of Trustees to see to the safety and maintenance of school facilities, kitchen equipment, steps, handrails, lights, exits, and housekeeping practices.
2. Representatives of the School Board, Board of Trustees and staff members will conduct a formal walk-through of the school building and grounds twice each year.
BUDGET/FINANCE : 1. Development and maintenance of a Financial Plan.
2. Regular review of budget status.
3. Annually reviewing and making recommendation concerning the adequate compensation of all professional faculty, administrative assistant, custodial and cafeteria staff.
4. Annually meet with the Board of Stewardship and the Treasurer to recommend changes in the tuition and fee schedule for the school, child care and cafeteria.
5. Accurate accounting of and the collection of all school tuition, child care and cafeteria fees.
6. Development and administration of a Tuition Assistance program for the school.
7. Preparing, submitting and participating in the annual budget process the Board of Stewardship.
8. Formal review and reporting of financial status for each of the following programs: · Early Childhood Education (ECE) (PK3 through Kindergarten) · 1st through 4th Grade · 5th & 6th Grade · 7th & 8th Grade · School Year Child Care Program · Summer Child Care Program
AUXILIARY ORGANIZATIONS/VOLUNTEERS : 1. Policies which direct working with organizations and other Boards and committees to coordinate school activities with congregational activities and to encourage the participation of the congregation in school activities.
2. Enlisting, training, placing and continuing to train lay leaders and volunteers as the school needs require.
3. Establishing a system of commendation for and recognition of faithful service by all persons involved in the school.
4. Supervision of the Council of Parents Organization, children’s groups and other agencies meeting at the school.
ADVERTISING/RECRUITMENT/EVANGELISM: 1. Develop and implement an on going advertising program.
2. Providing, in conjunction with the Board of Evangelism, for the recruitment of pupils for the school.
3. Encouraging the participation of every congregation member in the school and its activities.
TECHNOLOGY: 1. Development and implementation of a Technology Road Map. This road map shall include the school and church. Board of Trustees participation will be required.
