Music Education
General Information
Classroom music education is taught in all grades through the 6th grade.   The 7th and 8th graders are all in the choir which includes music education concepts.  Instrumental music is highly encouraged, beginning in the 6th grade.

Concepts taught include:

  • Note reading
  • Rhythm studies
  • Movement
  • Vocal technique
  • Introduction of instruments
  • Music theory
  • Use of Orff-type instruments
  • Austin Symphony concert
  • Music Memory:  Students Grades 3-6 study Music Memory selections and are able to participate in PSIA Music Memory competition.
  • Recorders:  Recorder instruction is part of the curriculum in grades 4 and 5.
