 First grade is an exciting place to be!
It is a year of “firsts”!
· Being in the elementary wing
· Accelerated Reader
· Having special teachers for music, computers, library, Spanish, art, physical education.
· Organizing ourselves using our “OK Notebook” (Organized Kids Notebook).
With many special activities the first graders apply the many new skills they learn in language arts, math, social studies and science.
With a combination of phonics and literature the first graders learn the skills for being good readers. We use our language skills to express ourselves orally as well as writing stories and sharing our thoughts and ideas in our journals. In math we investigate numbers with particular attention to addition and subtraction. We also work on place value, geometry, fractions, money and time. We explore our community in social studies. Through “hands on” science we learn about the wonderful world God has created.
By integrating our learning throughout the curriculum first graders learn in an exciting and dynamic way!
