6th Grade

WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE

6th grade is the beginning of the Middle School “journey.”  It is important to start this journey with a positive attitude, a willingness to participate, and an open mind and spirit.
There are many changes that take place this year.  The biggest change would be the departmentalization of classes.  Students will have a homeroom teacher that will start the day, but then students will move from class to class for the rest of the day.
6th graders will also be able to participate in Student Council this year.  It is important that they learn how to become positive leaders in our school and in the community.
In Language Arts students will read at least 7 classic and/or contemporary novels while working in literature groups to discuss and enhance meaning.  Students will also use different forms of writing to persuade, inform, and entertain.  Research reports and projects are also part of the curriculum.
The primary focal points of Mathematics in 6th grade are using ratios to describe direct proportional relationships involving number, geometry, measurement, probability, and adding and subtracting decimals and fractions.  Students will also be introduced to algebraic equations.
6th grade Science includes conducting field and labor
