Visual art at St Paul begins in first grade and continues through eighth grade. The curriculum is progressive and builds on concepts and vocabulary taught the previous year. Students learn the elements and principles of art, art history, and art across cultures. Projects are based on lessons that are developmentally appropriate for each age level. We provide major art displays at various spring programs and also compete at various art contests.

I am excited to be your Art Teacher this year at St. Paul. We will explore many different methods, materials, techniques, and styles this year in Art class. The curriculum emphasizes the Studio Arts such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and other Special Projects. Art History will play a large role in our lessons as we learn about artists and their achievements throughout history.
Thank you for the opportunity to share Art with you. I believe in good communication and hope that you will contact me here at the school: . I look forward to my students’ creative inspirations!
Sincerely, Miss Moore

Fall 2007
Dear St. Paul Parents, Family and Staff:
For those of you that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, I would like to briefly introduce myself so that you will not be confused as to who the strange individual is lurking around St. Paul's halls.
I am aware that many of your children have spent their previous school years at St. Paul and have gotten the pleasure of getting to know Mrs. Michelle Felder, St. Paul's art teacher. As many of you might also know, she will not be returning and St. Paul has chosen me to teach grades 1-8 art. I can assure you, I am quite excited to be offered this position and are busily continuously planning for the upcoming school year, not to mention acclimating to Austin by ways of the Northeast.
Now, a little bit about me and my qualifications...
I began my undergraduate schooling in elementary education and later switched to fine arts. I graduated from Cornell University with a BFA in visual arts/photography and subsequently went on to achieve an MFA in visual arts/photography at Rutgers University. After working numerous positions in art galleries, museums, and photography studios, as well as teaching art in college and summer camps, I decided that teaching children was one of my great passions. Therefore, I went back to school and earned a Master's of Education. I greatly look forward to incorporating my varied creative skills into teaching art during this important developmental period in your children's lives.
I am excited to have the opportunity to get to know your children, many of which I'm sure will prove to be lovely, talented, creative, humorous and enjoyable. I revel in the contagiousness of young inquisitive minds and hope to assist in encouraging their unique, creative natures to develop to the fullest extent. Art is about experimentation, not just product. Just like any other discipline, sometimes the moments of learning that magically occur during the day, far supersedes the original goal of the activity. Art is a time to release, grow, learn and enjoy.
