CONGRATULATIONS GEOGRAPHY BEE WINNER - Ruth, a 7th grader, has qualified for the Texas state Geography Bee to be held March 30th. This is Ruth's second year to go to state. Yay Ruth!

STUDENT TEACHERS - This spring we are blessed to have 5 student teachers with us. Three of the student teachers are from Concordia University, Texas and the other two are from Concordia, Wisconsin. St. Paul has great mentor teachers to guide these young adults to be effective teachers in our Lutheran Schools.

SCIENCE FAIR returned to St. Paul this year. Students in all grades participated. Special thanks to Miss Tracey Timm, our middle school science teacher for organizing this great event.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. KELLI BELT, OUR 4TH GRADE TEACHER! Ms. Belt was nominated and chosen to be one of the top three finalists for the Lutheran Educator of the Year award, presented annually at our fall Lutheran teachers' conference. We are truly blessed to have Ms. Belt on our staff!

Congratulations to Philip Crandel for receiving a Letter of Commendation for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Philip attended St. Paul Lutheran School, graduating in 2008. He is now a senior at Concordia High School.

NEWS JUST IN "The Lutheran School Accreditation Commission met in June to review Annual Reports and Action Plans. St. Paul Lutheran School received an 'Excellent' rating based on your Annual Report." This letter was received in early July 2011 and refers to our accreditation report for the 2010-2011 school year. We are very excited about this rating as it is the highest rating NLSA offers.

What is NLSA? NLSA is a process of self-evaluation followed by a visit from objective observers designed to help Lutheran schools improve the quality of their programs. The process is completely voluntary and available for every school operated by a single congregation, by an association of congregations, or by a recognized service organization of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills test will be administered to students in grades 2-8 in late March. The test is used as a snapshot of how our students are doing and how we are doing as a school. Again this year our students have done very well.

What is ITBS? The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is a nationwide, standardized test used by public and private schools. For the last three years our students overall scored higher than 92% of all students taking this test. That puts our students in the top 8% in academics nationwide!

ACCREDITATION - In the fall of 2011, St. Paul reapplied for accreditation. (Our current cycle was coming to a close.) We spent several months preparing a self-study that culminated in a visit by the accreditation team. At the end of November, the team highly recommended us for re-accreditation. We are proud to have earned a rating of EXCELLENT for the last few years and foresee such fine ratings in the future. Below are some results from the recent Parent Survey which was included in the self study.

* Our Lutheran school provides a positive learning environment for my child.
+ 88% strongly agree
+ 12% Agree
* The quality of education at our Lutheran school is at least as good as other area schools.
+ 91% strongly agree
+ 6% agree
+ 3% neutral

PSIA - PSIA is a private school academic competition that students in grades 1-8 may participate in. Students meet with a coach before or after school and study for dictionary skills, vocabulary, spelling, on-site drawing, and more. Approximately 30+ students participated in the District contest in New Braunfels in early March 2012. We brought home several ribbons and 10 students will be moving on to the state contest at TCU in May. Contact Mrs. Julie Hammond, our PSIA coordinator, at 472-3313, for more information.

RENWEB is our online school management system. Our school families may log in and update their own family demographics. They may also view the school calendar, tuition statements, grades, etc. RenWeb is a great tool for communication in-house. Take time to check it out.

ST. PAUL WEATHERCAM: A weatherbug camera has been installed for our school! CLICK HERE External link to see images. (Be sure to check out animations too!). This now puts St. Paul on the weatherbug map so watch for it on KXAN!
