St. Paul Lutheran Church — Volunteer Coordinator (Part-Time)
Position Overview
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, seeks a part-time Volunteer Coordinator to strengthen volunteer engagement and support ministry functions across the congregation. This position is 10–15 hours per week at $25/hour, with flexibility in scheduling and occasional evening/weekend commitments. While the time estimate is modest, the responsibilities require a candidate who is organized and theological. This role reports to the Parish Pastor, collaborating closely with other staff and ministry leaders.
Primary Responsibilities
The Volunteer Coordinator will not carry the full weight of recruiting, training, and managing all volunteers, but will build and support systems that enable the congregation’s volunteer culture to thrive:
- Identify and catalog volunteer needs across church ministries and events (in cooperation with staff and lay leaders).
- Communicate volunteer opportunities through appropriate channels (bulletin, email, Realm, etc.).
- Assist ministry leaders in matching volunteers to opportunities and ensuring clarity of expectations.
- Maintain a central volunteer database, tracking involvement, availability, and preferences.
- Support ministry areas in developing appropriate training and onboarding for their volunteers (not creating the training itself, but ensuring it is happening).
- Facilitate recognition and appreciation efforts, including annual thank-you events or seasonal acknowledgments.
- Encourage a culture of service volunteering, reinforcing the congregation’s identity as a “family church” even as it grows.
- Coordinate background checks for volunteers working with children and youth, in compliance with St. Paul’s Church policies.
- Serve as a resource for volunteer-related questions, feedback, and support, while directing concerns to the appropriate ministry leader.
Key Objectives
- Develop sustainable systems for managing and communicating volunteer needs across ministries.
- Help bridge volunteers and opportunities within the church’s existing organizational functions, not as a standalone recruiter but as a connector and coordinator.

- Work with the Parish Pastor to ensure alignment with pastoral care, worship planning, and congregational life initiatives.
